Honestly, I hadn't thought about this much since I don't get a huge volume of email sign ups to my Medium-specific story updates list.
But! I think exporting your Medium email list and adding those folks to your general email list is generally a solid idea.
The golden rule of email marketing is: get permission. You want someone's permission to add them to your list. When someone opts-in to your Medium email list, I'd say they're interested in hearing from you via email. However, clarity is important.
Solution: if you want to do this **edit the text description of your Medium story updates opt-in to make clear that you are adding people to your general list**
For example, if I were doing this (which I now may!) perhaps I'd use something like
"Join Alex's humor email list and get an email when he publishes"
That's maybe not perfect, but it would do the job.
